05Props

DiffViewer

PropTypeDefaultDescription
before*stringThe old version of the file.
after*stringThe new version. Identical inputs show a quiet no-changes line instead of an empty frame.
filenamestringShown in the header, and used to pick the highlighting language.
previousFilenamestringFor renames: the header shows the old path struck through, then the new one.
langstringLanguage name, alias or extension. Falls back to the filename's extension, then plain text.
view"unified" | "split"Controlled layout. Pair with onViewChange.
defaultView"unified" | "split""unified"Initial layout when uncontrolled.
onViewChange(view: DiffView) => voidCalled when the layout switch is pressed.
contextnumber3Unchanged lines kept around each change before the rest folds away.

diff

PropTypeDefaultDescription
(a, b)<T>(a: T[], b: T[]) => { op: "=" | "-" | "+"; a: number; b: number }[]The shortest edit script between two arrays (Myers). The viewer uses it for lines and for the words inside a changed line.

06Notes

Behavior

  • Inside a changed line only the words that changed are washed; when a line changed so much that marking would be noise, the whole row carries the color alone.
  • Split view pairs each removed line with the added line that most resembles it, and fills the other side with a hatched gap where nothing lines up.
  • Unchanged runs fold unless three or fewer lines would hide. Long folds open 20 lines at a time from either edge, or all at once from the label.
  • Below 560px split can't fit two readable columns, so it shows unified until there is room again; on a phone the gutters tighten and long lines wrap with a hanging indent.

Motion

  • Opened lines grow in over 280ms on the in-out quart with a 200ms fade trailing by 60ms; the fold row collapses in 200ms as its last lines arrive.
  • The hidden-line count rolls down as a fold opens in steps (420ms), and the layout pill slides between Unified and Split on the snappy spring.
  • Switching layout cross-fades in 160ms. Reduced motion keeps short fades and drops the height growth, the slide and the roll.

Accessibility

  • Added and removed rows carry a hidden "Added line" or "Removed line" so the sign isn't conveyed by color alone; the header reads as "3 added, 2 removed".
  • The layout switch is a toggle group: one tab stop, arrow keys move between Unified and Split.
  • Fold controls are named buttons ("Show 20 lines above the change below"). Opening a whole fold from the keyboard moves focus to the next fold instead of dropping it on the page.
